The Internal Mitzvos

"Herein lies the mystery of Shatnez. Wool is derived from the sheep, a docile and gentle natured creature associated with Chessed (kindness). Linen, in contrast, is derived from flax which grows as singular stalks without branches, exhibiting very little expansion; it thus signifies the self containing quality of Gevurah. When these two fibres are blended together and worn as part of a garment they signify the negative balancing of Chessed and Gevurah."

"The human is composite of both the spiritual and physical realms. His body stems from the physical while his soul is from the spiritual. He therefore has the choice of travelling in either direction; he can identify with his rigid, egotistical physical side which is unaware or non receptive to G-d and thus clash with people who are different to himself. Or, he can identify more strongly with his soul which is aware of and subordinate to G-d. He is then incomparably more capable of achieving peace with others."

"Here are two gates within a person: one leading to the head and the other to the heart... G-d made two covenants with mankind corresponding to these two gates; the 'covenant of the tongue' and the 'covenant of the skin'."
